Today, any emerging trends, such as millennials’ preferences, a revolution in the educational sphere or economic reforms influence the cultural landscape immediately. Cultural institutions not only reflect the changes but also shape them, involving creative communities in the process. A creative community is any group of people who come together digitally or physically around a shared objective, interest or set of values to create something: a local maker space, or a YouTube channel, or an Instagram hashtag.
At the lecture strategic designer and consultant Jasper Visser will explain how cultural institutions can manage city development using their own resources. Jasper thinks that cultural institutions should review their approach to collaboration with creative communities so as not only to be affected by changes but become agents of change.
It is a different and more relevant approach to audience’ than the usual classification based on gender, age and social status. The communities act as the agents of change, posing questions, highlighting what is important and suggesting new solutions.
Jasper Visser is an international change agent, social and cultural innovator and facilitator. He has extensive experience in the cultural sectors and social institutions. Jasper is a strategic designer and senior partner at the boutique consultancy VISSCH+STAM. Recently, Jasper has worked internationally on strategy development and audience engagement projects for a wide range of clients including the European Parliament, the State Library of New South Wales, the National Arts Centre of Canada and Philips.
