In 2004 UNESCO had established a list of the most creative places in the world, calling the German city Mannheim ‘the city of music’. The musical environment here is the driving force for the development of cultural, economic and educational urban policies. Christian Sommer has been working in the music industry since 1994, he was the manager of bands like Masterboy and Fools Garden. In 2003 he became one of the founders and the director of the music cluster Musikpark Mannheim GmbH. Sommer is the co-founder of the Federal Union of Music Producers of Germany and a member of the supervisory board of the Pop Academy of Baden-Württemberg. Mg:gmbh, which he heads today, was created with the support of the city administration to manage a network of eight startup clusters, located on the area of 28,000 square meters. They offer modern infrastructure for startup development as well as — coworkings, accelerators, international connections, support for creative industries and provide other services — offline and digital.
