On August 30, Red Bull Music Festival Moscow 2019 and Strelka will open a three-day marathon with a big party that will include a concert by a vocalist, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Leroy Burgess, who has been known for several decades as the king of boogie for his contribution to the dance music history.
Leroy Burgess got into show business in the late 60s as a member of Black Ivory soul band, whose song samples can be found in music tracks of Nas, Madlib and Ghostface Killah. In the 70s, he worked with his friend Stevie Wonder and collaborated with Patrick Adams, and in the 80s Burgess participated in dozens of studio projects and collaborations: Convention, LOGG, Phreek, Inner Life, Aleems, Dazzle, Universal Robot Band, as well as recorded with stars like Eddie Kendricks, Rick James and Sister Sledge. Leroy's voice can be heard in an infinite number of New York disco hits, such as “Get Loose,” “Release Yourself,” “Heartbreaker,” “Barely Breaking Even” and “Let’s do it,” while his records became the classics of the Paradise Garage Club at the time.
A new milestone in the musician's touring history was the year of 2016, when MCDE curating Nuits Sonores Festival in Lyon, invited his idol Leroy Burgess to perform his best songs with a group of local young musicians, handpicked specifically for that show. This is what Burgess himself says about his new group: "…The finest that I've ever had the honor of sharing a stage with, in 50 years performing".
The party starts with the performance of Vtgnike, a Russian DJ and producer, member of the music enthusiasts community "Гост Звук", released two albums on Nicholas Jaar’s imprint Other People. Moscow DJ and producer Leonid Lipelis will close the first night of RED BULL MUSIC FESTIVAL.
