19:00 Mitya Kharshak: How is contemporary Finnish design perceived in Russia?
Mitya Kharshak, editor-in-chief of Projector magazine, will deliver the first in a series of lectures about how design can change the lives of ordinary people. Kharshak will talk about Finnish design in Russia.
Designer, photographer, art critic, and a graphic archeologist, Kharshak is a member of the Russian Union of Designers, the Russian Union of Artists, and the International Association of Art Critics. He has taught at the Higher School of Art (Hochschule der Kunste) in Berlin and at the Northwestern State Print University in St. Petersburg. He is the author of “From Psychology of Domestic Type to Graphic Archeology” (2006). Kharshak has won citations at numerous international competitions and biennales. In 2003, he received a gold diploma and the Modular prize for graphic design at the Modular biennale, as well as a prize from the Russian Union of Journalists. In 2005, he won first place at the Golden Flea exhibition-competition. From 2009-2010 Mitya ran “Vizhu!” (“I See!”) a program of lectures and master classes that [kAk] magazine called “the event of the year for Russian graphic designers”.
