For this lecture, Michel Rojkind will discuss strategies for design, touching on how, within the framework of a given task, one can reach resolutions that develop and contribute to the urban landscape. The most well-known projects of Rojkind’s firm, Rojkind Arquitectos, are a far cry from those of so-called “Starchitects.” Whether it’s a museum of chocolate, a shopping mall or a restaurant, Rojkind’s projects fully meet the specific needs of his clients. But at the same time, with these buildings Rojkind realises “added opportunities,” which pave the way for the development of the surrounding area.
Michel Rojkind belongs to a new generation of Mexican architects, united in their ambition to bring fresh ideas into the context of the strong architectural traditions of their country. Rojkind took up architecture immediately on his graduation from the Ibero-American University in 1994. In 2002, he founded his own studio, Rojkind Arquitectos, in order to work on the new challenges posed by contemporary society. Michel Rojkind’s designs can be found in all the major architectural publications of the present day: Contemporary Corporate Architecture (2009), Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century Architecture (2009) and Open House: Architecture and Technology for Intelligent Living (2006). His design for the Nestlé Chocolate Museum was awarded the 2008 IAA prize, as one of the best projects realised worldwide.
