Hot, crowded and spiky: cities in the era of globalization (Lectures)

The founder of Hosoya Schaefer Architects Markus Schaefer will talk about the challenges cities face in a globalized world

Alongside with globalization rises the role of the city. The concentration of opportunity, power and money draws population from non-urban areas into cities, often increasing inequality. Markus Schaefer, a founding partner of Hosoya Schaefer Architects, will give a lecture on the ideas, institutions, infrastructures, urban spaces and projects that can address such inequality.

Hosoya Schaefer Architects have been commissioned for projects in several cities throughout the world. They are working on the final quarter of Hamburg’s HafenCity, on several innovation and technology parks, on the Swiss National Exposition in 2027 and on Toronto’s UP Express train line with its four stations. The office has received multiple awards and conducts research projects for Volkswagen and other clients.

The workshop will be a part of a series of events hosted by the joint Masters programme 'Advanced Urban Design' by Strelka Institute and HSE Graduate School of Urbanism
