The evening will open with the Moscow premiere of the film which won the Grand Prix of the short film contest at Kinotavr. ‘Lalai-balalay’, directed by Ruslan Bratov, is an elegantly shot film about the end of a night of drinking: in the early morning, a cheerful group of men in suits with an easy-going gait sneak into an amusement park. Their carousel spins and it is not going to stop. The director and main actors will present the movie in person at the premier.

The Russian premiere of ‘Souvenir’ will continue the evening. The star of ‘Elle’ and ‘La pianiste’, Isabelle Huppert, plays former singer Lilian, who was once a rising star of the music industry. But now she has a repetitive job at the paste factory. Lillian wastes most of her time at home watching TV, her apartment filled with relics from her past days of glory. One day, Jean, a new employee and a boxer, starts working at the factory. For Lillian, his arrival becomes a second chance. The unusual drama of their relationship is the clash of worldviews of two people with different life experiences. The young optimist tries to remind the disappointed actress how far one can go chasing aspirations and dreams.

The director of the movie, Bavo Defurne, was the winner of the 2014 Berlin Film Festival. ‘Souvenir’ was nominated for the ‘Special Presentations’ category at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival along with ‘Manchester by the Sea’ and ‘Paterson’.

The Russian premiere of ‘Souvenir’ and the Moscow premiere of ‘Lalai-balalay’ will be held as part of the Second International Otkritie x Strelka Film Festival, supported by Otkritie Bank and MasterCard. The programme includes Russian and Moscow premieres of films from different countries selected by curator Stas Tyrkin.
