Day 1: EDUCATION IN DESIGN
The opening day will begin with a lecture by Tuula Teeri, president of Aalto University (Helsinki), which gathers future designers, engineers and economists under one roof. Teeri will talk about creating a new platform for design education and teaching universal, interdisciplinary skills.
The lecture will be followed by a round-table discussion on post-university education. Participants will include: Aalto University professors Mikko Koria (School of Economics) and Marjo Mäenpää (The School of Art, Design and Architecture), and Ejia Salmi and Christian Guellerin of Cumulus, the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media. Other participants will include representatives from the Moscow Architectural Institute, the Academy of Art n.a. S.G. Stroganov, the British School of Design, the MARSH Architecture School, and others.
Day 2 : SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE
The second day will begin with a lecture of Pasi Mattila, director of educational company Finpeda and initiator of the national program "Future School of Finland". Mattila will talk about using design to improve our schools, and architectures from VERSTAS Architects will present a mechanism for bringing innovation to public schools.
Day 3 : CONTEMPORARY FINNISH DESIGN
The third day will take place under the aegis of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. It will feature a lecture by Pekka Timonen, executive director of World Design Capital Helsinki 2012, about turning design into a national design. Other lecturers will include, Anne Stenros, vice-president of design at the legendary industrial design house KONE, Mirkku Kullberg, CEO of Artek — who will speak about design and art. Petteri Kolinen, design director of Martela, will talk about industrial design, and architect Jari Inkinen, designer of Nokia and Vkontakte's Moscow offices, will lead a workshop on rational interior design.
