Struggling for walls: Street art in modern cities (Discussions)

Street art from the perspectives of graffiti artists and officials

Warning! The discussion is cancelled

For the second time, Russia’s capital is hosting Artmossphere Moscow Street Art Biennale. Graffiti is sneaking into exhibition halls. Who defines where to place a piece of art? How do street artists interact with city officials? And what does a young artist need to succeed?

The discussion at Strelka will gather street artists, journalists and officials who define the role of street art in contemporary Moscow, directors of art institutions, and other specialists involved in urban environment. Experts will find out what street art is supposed to be today — a tool of urban makeover or of lobbying business interests.

The discussion will be held in partnership with the art group ARTMOSSPHERE, which organises and curates projects promoting street culture. Its cases include ‘The Best City on Earth’ festival held by the Department of Culture, VDNKh programme of public art, the auction of street art partnered with RuArts foundation, and many others.

The discussion will be held in Russian and moderated by street art producer and founder of Moscow Hip-Hop Academy Mikhail Oger.
